A fractured metacarpal often results from an impact injury. It can cause severe pain and deformity in the hand. These fractures can take more than a month to heal. Treatment usually consists of keeping the finger immobile, using pain medication as needed, and performing rehabilitation exercises. In severe cases, surgery might be needed.
