Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a cause of hip pain in young adults and may contribute to accelerated osteoarthritis if left untreated[1]. Surgical management of FAI has increasingly shifted towards arthroscopic treatment in the form of labral management and osteochondroplasty[1]. However, high-level evidence for the efficacy of hip arthroscopy was once limited, thus the Femoroacetabular Impingement RandomiSed controlled Trial (FIRST) was designed as a multicenter, blinded RCT comparing arthroscopic osteochondroplasty (with or without labral repair) with arthroscopic lavage (with or without labral repair) for individuals with symptomatic FAI[2].
